Frequently asked questions
How do invite links work?
Each group gets a unique invite link. Share it through any channel — text, email, Slack, WhatsApp, or whatever your group uses. When someone clicks the link, they're taken to GiftCrew where they can sign up for free (or sign in) and join the group. You can also share the invite code. The link can be reused and stays valid until an admin generates a new one — newly generated codes last 7 days.
Can I be in multiple groups?
Yes, absolutely. Most people have separate groups for family, friends, coworkers, and other social circles. Each group sees your wishlist (with Pro, you can keep several and choose which one each group sees), and claiming happens per group — so if someone in your family group claims an item, a friends group that sees the same wishlist just sees it marked as claimed in another group. Free accounts can be in up to 3 groups (created or joined), while Pro accounts support up to 20. Every group holds up to 50 members on any plan.
What happens when someone claims an item?
When a group member claims an item from a birthday person's wishlist, the item is immediately marked as claimed for all other group members. They can see who claimed it, which helps with coordination — and several people can claim the same item if they want to split a bigger gift. The birthday person, however, sees nothing — to them, all items still appear unclaimed and the surprise is preserved.
Can I unclaim an item if I change my mind?
Yes, you can unclaim an item at any time. The item becomes available again for other group members to claim. This flexibility means there's no pressure when you first claim something — if your budget changes or you find a better gift idea, you can easily adjust.
Is gift chat available on the free plan?
Gift chat is turned on for every member of a group when the group's owner has Pro — a member upgrading doesn't turn it on in someone else's group. On Free, everyone can still create groups, share wishlists, and claim items — the core coordination features work without chat. If your group needs chat, the owner can upgrade to Pro, or you can use your existing group messaging app alongside GiftCrew.
